📖 Passage 1: The Benefits of Learning a Second Language
Learning a second language has many benefits that go beyond just communication. Research shows that bilingual people often have better memory and can focus more easily than those who speak only one language. When you learn a new language, your brain has to work harder to switch between two systems, and this exercise makes your brain stronger over time.
Studies from several universities have found that people who speak two or more languages are better at solving problems and making decisions. They can also understand other cultures more easily, which helps them in both their personal and professional lives. In today’s global world, speaking a foreign language can open doors to better job opportunities and higher salaries.
Learning a language also has health benefits. Some scientists believe that bilingualism can delay the onset of diseases like Alzheimer’s by four to five years. The brain of a bilingual person stays active and healthy for longer because it is constantly exercising.
However, learning a new language is not always easy. It requires dedication, practice, and patience. Many learners give up after a few months because they don’t see quick results. Experts recommend practicing at least 30 minutes every day and using the language in real situations, such as watching movies, reading books, or talking with native speakers.
The best time to start learning is now. Whether you are young or old, your brain can always benefit from the challenge of a new language. The key is consistency — a little practice every day is better than hours of study once a week.

📖 Passage 2: Recycling Around the World
Recycling has become an important part of daily life in many countries. In Japan, recycling rules are very strict. People must separate their waste into many categories, including plastic bottles, paper, glass, cans, and burnable garbage. Each type of waste is collected on a different day of the week. If someone puts the wrong item in the wrong bag, the garbage collectors will not take it.
Germany is also famous for its recycling system. The country has a deposit system for bottles called “Pfand.” When people buy drinks in plastic or glass bottles, they pay a small deposit. When they return the empty bottles to the store, they get their money back. This system encourages people to recycle and reduces waste significantly.
In contrast, some developing countries still struggle with waste management. Many cities do not have proper recycling facilities, and a large amount of waste ends up in rivers and oceans. Organizations around the world are working to change this by building recycling plants and educating communities about the importance of waste separation.
Sweden has taken recycling to another level. The country recycles so efficiently that it actually imports garbage from other countries to fuel its waste-to-energy power plants. Less than one percent of Swedish household waste ends up in landfills.
Experts agree that recycling alone is not enough to solve the world’s waste problem. People also need to reduce the amount of waste they produce and reuse items whenever possible. The three Rs — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle — remain the best approach to managing waste.
