📋 PART 1: Introduction & Interview (4-5 phút)

Hướng dẫn:

  • Đọc câu hỏi → trả lời ngay (không suy nghĩ quá 3 giây)
  • Mỗi câu: 2-3 câu (15-25 giây)

Questions:

Topic 1: Work/Study

  1. Do you work or are you a student?
  2. What do you like most about your job/studies?
  3. Would you like to change your job in the future?

Topic 2: Neighborhood 4. Can you describe the area where you live? 5. What do you like about your neighborhood? 6. Is there anything you’d like to change about it?

Topic 3: Seasons & Weather 7. What’s your favorite season? 8. Does the weather affect your mood? 9. What do you usually do on rainy days?

📝 Model Answers Part 1:

Q1: “I work as a software engineer at a Japanese company. I’ve been in this role for about three years now, and I mainly focus on building web applications for clients.”

Q2: “What I enjoy most is the problem-solving aspect. Every project brings different challenges, and I find it really satisfying when I manage to find elegant solutions. Plus, I get to work with a great team.”

Q3: “Honestly, I’m quite happy with my current job, but I’d like to move into a more managerial role in the future. I think leading a team and mentoring junior developers would be a rewarding next step.”

Q4: “I live in a residential area in Saitama, just outside Tokyo. It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood with lots of small shops and parks. It’s not as busy as central Tokyo, which I actually prefer.”

Q5: “I really like how peaceful it is. There’s a lovely park nearby where I often take walks, and the community is quite friendly. Also, the rent is much more affordable compared to Tokyo.”

Q6: “If I could change one thing, I’d probably want better public transport connections. The nearest station is a bit of a walk, which can be inconvenient, especially during bad weather.”

Q7: “My favorite season is autumn. The temperature is just perfect — not too hot, not too cold — and the autumn leaves are absolutely beautiful in Japan. It’s also great weather for outdoor activities.”

Q8: “Definitely! Sunny days make me feel energetic and motivated, while rainy days tend to make me a bit lazy. I think most people are affected by the weather to some extent.”

Q9: “On rainy days, I usually stay in and catch up on reading or watch a movie. Sometimes I’ll cook something special — there’s something comforting about cooking while listening to the rain.”

📋 PART 2: Individual Long Turn (3-4 phút)

Hướng dẫn:

  • Đọc cue card → 1 phút chuẩn bị (viết notes vào giấy)
  • 2 phút nói liên tục — bấm timer!

Cue Card:

Describe a time when you helped someone. You should say:

  • who you helped
  • what the situation was
  • how you helped them
  • and explain how you felt about it

📝 Model Answer Part 2:

I’d like to talk about a time when I helped a new colleague at work who was struggling to adapt to the Japanese work environment.

This happened about a year ago when a junior developer from Vietnam joined our team. He was technically skilled, but he was having a really hard time with the language barrier and cultural differences. He seemed quite overwhelmed during meetings because everything was conducted in Japanese, and he was also unfamiliar with Japanese business etiquette.

I decided to take him under my wing since I’d gone through a similar experience when I first came to Japan. First, I started sitting next to him during meetings and quietly translating the key points. Then, I created a glossary of common technical terms in Japanese that he could reference. I also spent time after work explaining Japanese workplace customs — things like how to communicate with clients, email etiquette, and even practical stuff like how to use the train system.

Beyond work, I helped him find an apartment and showed him around the neighborhood — where to shop, which restaurants were good, that sort of thing.

Honestly, helping him made me feel really good about myself. It reminded me of how lost I felt when I first arrived, and how much I appreciated the people who helped me. Seeing him gradually become more confident and comfortable was incredibly rewarding. After a few months, he was fully integrated into the team and even started helping other newcomers. That made me feel proud — like I’d made a real difference.

📋 PART 3: Two-way Discussion (4-5 phút)

Hướng dẫn:

  • Đọc câu hỏi → trả lời 30-45 giây mỗi câu
  • Dùng E.E.E Framework từ Day 3

Questions:

  1. Why do some people enjoy helping others?
  2. Do you think people help each other less than in the past?
  3. Should children be taught to help others from a young age?
  4. Is it better to help people financially or with your time?
  5. Do you think governments should do more to help vulnerable people?

📝 Model Answers Part 3:

Q1: “I think there are several reasons why people enjoy helping others. For many, it gives them a sense of purpose and fulfillment — there’s actually scientific research showing that helping others releases endorphins and makes us happier. Some people are motivated by empathy — they’ve been through tough times themselves and want to make things easier for others. And for some, it’s simply part of their values or upbringing. For instance, in Vietnamese culture, helping your community is considered a fundamental virtue.”

Q2: “That’s a debatable point. On the surface, it might seem like people are less helpful these days because we’re more individualistic and busy. However, I’d argue that people actually help in different ways now. For example, online communities allow people to support others across the world — through crowdfunding, volunteering remotely, or sharing knowledge. So while face-to-face community help may have decreased, overall helping behavior has simply evolved.”

Q3: “Absolutely. I think teaching children about helping others is one of the most valuable lessons we can give them. When children learn to share and be considerate from a young age, it shapes their character for life. Schools could incorporate community service projects, and parents can set examples by volunteering. For instance, in Japan, students regularly clean their own classrooms, which teaches them responsibility and consideration for others.”

Q4: “I think both are valuable, but if I had to choose, I’d say giving your time is often more meaningful. Financial help is certainly important and necessary in emergencies, but spending time with someone — mentoring them, teaching them skills, or simply being there to listen — can have a much deeper and more lasting impact. That said, it really depends on the situation. If someone needs urgent medical care, money is obviously more helpful than companionship.”

Q5: “I firmly believe that governments have a responsibility to support vulnerable people in society. While individual charity is important, systemic problems require systemic solutions. For example, issues like homelessness, elderly care, and disability support really need government-funded programs and policies. Countries like the Nordic nations have shown that strong social safety nets lead to happier, more productive societies. However, government help should be designed to empower people, not create dependency.”
