📋 PART 1: Introduction & Interview (4-5 phút)
Questions:
Topic 1: Food & Cooking
- What kind of food do you like?
- Do you prefer eating at home or eating out?
- Have your eating habits changed over the years?
Topic 2: Health & Exercise 4. How do you stay healthy? 5. Do you think people in your country are health-conscious? 6. What sports or exercise do you enjoy?
Topic 3: Technology 7. How important is your phone to you? 8. What apps do you use most often? 9. Do you think children should use smartphones?
📝 Model Answers Part 1:
Q1: “I’m quite a foodie, actually. I love Japanese cuisine — especially ramen and sushi — which makes living in Japan a dream come true. I also enjoy Vietnamese food, which is what I grew up eating. I think food from Southeast Asia in general is incredibly flavorful.”
Q2: “I’d say I prefer eating at home most of the time because it’s healthier and more economical. But I do enjoy eating out on weekends, especially trying new restaurants. There’s something nice about not having to do the dishes!”
Q3: “Definitely. When I was younger, I used to eat a lot of fast food and didn’t really think about nutrition. But since I got married and had a daughter, I’ve become much more conscious about what I eat. I try to cook balanced meals with plenty of vegetables now.”
Q4: “I try to lead a fairly active lifestyle. I go jogging three or four times a week, and I also do some stretching exercises at home. Besides physical exercise, I try to get enough sleep and maintain a balanced diet — though I’ll admit I’m not always successful with the sleep part!”
Q5: “It’s a mixed picture, I’d say. In Japan, where I live, there’s generally a strong health culture — people walk a lot, and the diet is quite healthy. But at the same time, work-related stress is a huge issue, and many people work such long hours that they don’t have time to exercise. So health-conscious in some ways, but not in others.”
Q6: “I mainly enjoy jogging because it’s simple and doesn’t require any equipment — I just put on my shoes and go. I used to play badminton back in Vietnam, and I’d love to get back into it. I’ve also recently started doing yoga, which has been great for both my physical and mental health.”
Q7: “I’d have to say my phone is pretty essential to my daily life. I use it for work communication, navigation, and staying connected with family in Vietnam. If I forgot my phone at home, I’d honestly feel quite lost — which probably says a lot about how dependent we’ve all become on technology.”
Q8: “The apps I use most are probably LINE for messaging, Google Maps for navigation, and YouTube for learning — I watch a lot of English learning content and tech tutorials. I’ve also been using a meditation app recently, which has been surprisingly helpful for managing stress.”
Q9: “That’s a tricky question. I think limited, supervised use is fine — there are some excellent educational apps for children. But I’m concerned about excessive screen time affecting children’s development and social skills. For my own daughter, I try to limit her exposure and make sure she spends plenty of time playing and interacting with real people.”
📋 PART 2: Individual Long Turn (3-4 phút)
Cue Card:
Describe an environmental problem in your country. You should say:
- what the problem is
- what causes it
- how it affects people
- and explain what you think should be done about it
📝 Model Answer Part 2:
I’d like to talk about air pollution, which is one of the most serious environmental problems in Vietnam, particularly in big cities like Hanoi.
The main causes of air pollution are vehicle emissions and industrial activity. Hanoi has millions of motorbikes and cars on the road, and the exhaust fumes they produce are a major contributor. Construction dust is another significant factor — there are building projects everywhere as the city rapidly develops. Additionally, during certain months, farmers in surrounding areas burn crop residue, which sends thick smoke into the city.
This problem affects people in numerous ways. On bad days, the air quality index reaches hazardous levels, and you can actually see a thick haze hanging over the city. Many people suffer from respiratory problems — asthma, bronchitis, and allergies have all increased significantly. People have to wear masks whenever they go outside, and some parents are reluctant to let their children play outdoors. There’s also growing evidence that air pollution contributes to more serious conditions like heart disease and even cancer.
In terms of solutions, I believe several measures should be taken. Firstly, the government should invest heavily in public transport to reduce the number of private vehicles on the road — a proper metro system would make a huge difference. Secondly, stricter regulations on industrial emissions need to be enforced. The crop-burning practice should be banned, and farmers should be provided with affordable alternatives. I also think raising public awareness about the health impacts of pollution would encourage more people to make eco-friendly choices, like cycling or using electric vehicles.
It’s a complex problem that requires both government action and individual responsibility, but I’m cautiously optimistic that things will improve as awareness grows.
📋 PART 3: Two-way Discussion (4-5 phút)
Questions:
- Do you think individuals or governments are more responsible for protecting the environment?
- How has environmental awareness changed in recent years?
- What role does technology play in solving environmental problems?
- Should developing countries prioritize economic growth or environmental protection?
- Do you think future generations will face more environmental challenges?
📝 Model Answers Part 3:
Q1: “I think it’s a shared responsibility, but governments play a more critical role because they have the power to implement large-scale policies and regulations. For example, a government can ban single-use plastic or invest in renewable energy infrastructure — things that individuals simply can’t do alone. That said, individual actions are also important because they create demand for eco-friendly products and put pressure on companies and governments to change. If millions of people choose to reduce their carbon footprint, it sends a powerful message.”
Q2: “Environmental awareness has improved dramatically, especially among younger generations. Social media has played a huge role in this — documentaries, viral campaigns, and influencers have brought environmental issues to millions of people who might not have been aware otherwise. In my own experience, I’ve noticed that many more restaurants and shops now offer eco-friendly options, and people are more willing to pay a premium for sustainable products. However, awareness doesn’t always translate into action — that’s where education and policy come in.”
Q3: “Technology is both part of the problem and a key part of the solution. On one hand, industrialization and technology have caused much of our environmental damage. On the other hand, cutting-edge technology is helping us address these problems — solar and wind energy have become much more efficient, electric vehicles are reducing emissions, and AI is being used to optimize energy consumption. I think the most exciting developments are in carbon capture technology and sustainable materials. If these technologies can be scaled up, they could be game-changers.”
Q4: “That’s a really complex dilemma. Developing countries argue, quite fairly, that they shouldn’t be penalized for trying to achieve the same standard of living that developed nations enjoy — especially since developed countries industrialized without environmental restrictions. However, I don’t think economic growth and environmental protection are mutually exclusive. Developing countries can actually leapfrog older, polluting technologies and go straight to renewable energy and sustainable practices. For example, many African countries are adopting solar energy because it’s now cheaper than building traditional power plants.”
Q5: “I think future generations will face different environmental challenges, some worse and some better. Climate change impacts like rising sea levels and extreme weather will likely worsen before they improve. However, I’m hopeful that technology and growing awareness will lead to significant progress. If governments honor their climate commitments and investment in green technology continues to grow, I believe we can mitigate the worst effects. The key question is whether we’ll act fast enough.”
